He's a Chelsea fan though, and has never fished.

I would say from top to bottom:

Stone fly.
Coch-y-bon-ddu.
LDO (spinner)
March brown.
Caddis lava.
Dragonfly nymph.
Damsel nymphs.
More dragonfly nymphs.

First three - Perla bipunctata Large Stonefly.

Number four - Coch-y-Bonddu

Next three - Baetis rhodani LDO Imago

Next two - Ecdyonorous torrentis Large Brook Dun Imago/Spinner form.

Number ten - a Caddis, a wild guess would be Athripsodes although Silverhorn are quite small; pity there's no size indication.

Number eleven is a Dragonfly nymph, as is fourteen and fifteen.

Twelve an thirteen are slimmer Damsel nymphs; all of the order Odonata



Rio's list is very close to mine; he may well be right as Ecdyonorous venosus or Late March Brown is a close relative. However the touch of yellow in the wing leading edge makes me think it is the 2mm larger Large Brook Dun.

No - just a fly pattern I have had success with - especially with over wintered rainbow trout.

Mask Wasp

How many of you have had success on a bumble bee pattern? - fished top-water.

There's a deadly fly to use on Lough Mask in June called the 'Mask Wasp'; I think Rod Tye sells them, lots of Picric dyed materials in the dressing, which I can't quite recall.

I'd never thought of trying a bumble bee pattern; but logic suggests this terrestial is blown onto water at times.
I'll tie a couple up to use as NZ style 'indicators'.
