Hi Kevin, easiest and cheapest tubes to use are cotton buds! just cut the ends off and burr the ends with a fag lighter so the materials don't slip off the end. Works for me...

Hi Kevin,

first of all T7' advice above is spot on. Cheap as chips and work a treat. I would, however, recommend that you have a quick feel of the buds before buying if you can, as some have a pretty soft stem on them. Look for the more sturdier ones. A couple of quid will give you literally hundreds of tubes!

As for the aluminium ones; the link you show above is pretty expensive. Have a look at this link, and they're doing 1p postage at the moment. |\

I don't think that varnish or pen will hold on the plastic, unfortunately. I'd just put some mylar tubing over them or some tinsel.

You could also try handy rig tube by genie , I think thats what it is called , you will find it in the sea fishing section in most tackle shops and the pack has ten lengths and the colour is red , if you look at it it is the same tube that comes with a can of wd40 so is quite sturdy , I use it a lot and as the colour is red it will go with a lot of the popular sea trout patterns |\

PS forgot to say as T7 has said cut to size and dont forget to burr the ends a smidge.

Ah Kevin, that's my downfall too. Too many pretty things when you visit any fishing store or website. They just draw you in.
