This theme of patterns goes back to Victorian times. They were very much invigorated by Falkus who suggested applying maggots to a hook point or ponts for 'short taking fish' on very dark nights stumbling around in the pitch black for sea trout. For my part I like the look of them although fishing with maggots would probably earn me ban from just about every fly fishing club that tolerates me.
