If you can't be doing with spinning deer-hair I found the above very useful on the lower Teifi a few years back ('04) having been introduced to them by a fella from H-West.
I think I've managed to c#ck-up the image size but essentially it is just a piece of black ethafoam lashed onto a regular single / treble mount and takes only a few minutes to make. The ends of the foam are left loose (i.e. sticking up in order to make the wake). The pattern has prooved very resiliant and lasts for ages.
Although I had my PB on a surface lure I find I loose confidence in the method very quickly if the fish don't respond, any tips here prosac maybe :>
I've had luck with bombers(Steelhead/Salmon) dry? flies, not that I use them often, I think one of Falkus' wake lures was just a bit of silver painted balsa, it doesent have to be a well tied and manicured thing, as long as it floats, or produces a good wake and is easily cast is all that counts.
It's not a magical thing that produces fish from every hole that one tries, but given the right occasion, can turn a sometimes quiet night and empty creel into an explosive night time excursion with some spectacular results.
:> :> :>
Cap
I was buggering about at the vise yesterday looking to tie some small surface lures for the Devon Axe (a top method for this small chalkstreamy river).
Anyhoo... I saw Simon's Chernobyl and thought to tie a Jambo with some rubber legs, more as a technical exercise than anything else:
So that worked and then I thought to incorporate some booby eyes and things kind of got carried away:
So - do I call this a "Jambug" or a "Jamb-Omygodthat'sugly"?!! :>
It has a nice profile in the water and I'm looking forward to losing it in a bankside hedge this weekend (hopefully after a fish or two).
