A pattern from North Wales that is very good for grilse and sea trout. I first tied it in 1988 after buying the book by James Waltham of Warrington. I am a lazy bugger and am always after an easy life. This fits the bill because I have taken grilse with it late evening and sea trout early night. The downside is the horns are quite brittle and prone to breakage when fish smash into the fly. C'est la vie

    The Dressing

Hook: Partridge Silver Salar Single size 7.
    Thread: Black.
    Tail: Golden pheasant crest.
Butt: A single turn of white dyed ostrich herl.
    Body: Medium silver tinsel.
Rib: Fine silver wire. If you wish to remain absolutely faithful to the original dressing then a tag of fine silver wire should be added. The fish don't mind if this is omitted and neither did Jimmy Waltham.
Hackle: A beard of blue dyed Guinea Fowl.
Wing: A very fine sliver of rolled bronze mallard.
Horns: Barbs from a macaw centre tail. These are tied in at the head and trailing mid wing to cross behind it. These results in one blue horn and one yellow as the natural tail has these colours.
