Sewin snakes

One of the members asked me to tie up some snake flies for him, he fishes the river Spey for his sewin. and i think he like black and black/red


Swivel snakes, tie these with a size 14 swivel in the head.

Standard loop eye snakes.

Some thing i have never tied before in a snake, with a treble stinger.

And swivel snakes with a stinger.

As i said he likes black and black & red, which as we all know does catch a lot of sewin.

Hi Sam, Thanks for your comments on the flies, the body is pearl mylar tubing. and i get it from the states in 200 meter spools, as i do tie a lot of snakes that's why i buy it in such big spools.

Nice to know there is something you have to purchase from our side of the Pond; for 'us' it's usually the other way 'round.:? Amazing the materials I see used on UK based boards that is either not available or only through some odd 'e-tailer' based here in the US.

Hi Sam, you can get pearl mylar from the tackle shop in Cardigan.
If he has none let me know I have some in both fine and medium diameter, I will drop some in.

Sam, I think most good fly tying shops carry mylar tubing,

I use x/small and small size tubing, for my Sewin snakes. and up to 1" dia for some saltwater patterns,

Only said i get mine from the states, as that's what he asked.

Sure thing Dave. A couple of options for you:

1. Drennan UV rainbow hooks. Very strong longshank, down-eye hooks.

2. My personal favourite is a gamakatsu steelhead hook. They're awesome! the product code is T10-6H. They come in black, red, blue and green. Up-eye, and very strong. Superb hooks. Some colours have been discontinued, but you may get lucky and find some old stock.

The Gammies noted above are a suburb hook. Like the Salar doubles .. if they touch it, you've got him. Hundreds of them tied up each year here in the PNW for 'drift fisherman's' rigs. First time I've noted them for fly fishing .. time to rethink?
