  • The Chevron Fruit Salad Shrimp

I was given a very bright pink dyed full pheasant skin by Chevron Hackles and asked to make something out of it. People of a certain age I hope will remember the sweets called Fruit Salads that as a kid I used to break my teeth on. The colours were very similar to this shrimp pink, orange and yellow.

    Tying Materials

Hook: Partridge Salar Double silver size 9
    Rear Thread: Primrose
    Tag: Fine silver wire
Rear hackle (feelers): Pink dyed golden pheasant breast feather
Rear body: A doubled length of arc yellow No 10 Glo Brite Floss
Rib: Veniard extra fine Micro Glint
Mid hackle: Yellow dyed hen saddle
    Front thread: Black
    Front body: Black floss
    Front rib: As rear
Front hackle: Bleached and dyed ginger hen hackle
Carapace: A large single jungle cock nail tied over the body and creased down its centre line.

Saw these on another forum over the weekend, very nice flies, sure to do the business. For me the Moc is always a dropper fly but I do not use the prescribed long shank, preferring a shorter hook. At that point I suppose mine is a similar profile to a Peter Ross.
Any chance of a black jack?

Black Jacks are wrong on so many levels. They taste like something out of cats rear end. They give you a black tongue and very curly teeth :>
