Sorry one and all, I have no idea what happened and what caused the forum to crash. Thankfully I know someone that can resolve such issues, as I would have almost certainly made things worse if I started to fiddle!! 
As an aside; the forum software is out of date and will need upgrading in the near future, which may also lead to the forum being down for another few hours. However, that will be scheduled and I should be able to give you warning on that one.
